About
About County Cremation
An independent UK directory built to make arranging a cremation simpler for families at one of the hardest times in their lives.
Why we exist
Cremation, made simpler when it matters most
When a loved one dies the practical questions arrive all at once. Where do we register the death? Which funeral director do we call? How do we choose between providers when the prices are all over the place and the small print is so different? County Cremation exists to take some of that weight off families at the hardest moment of their lives.
Direct cremation has become the fastest-growing funeral choice in the UK. The market is now crowded with national brands all advertising similar-sounding services at very different prices, and almost none of them say plainly what their price actually includes — let alone where your loved one will actually be cared for. The result is that grieving families routinely choose the wrong provider for the wrong reasons.
Our job is to make that choice clearer. We collect the information that matters into one independent UK directory, organised county by county, so a family can find a trusted local funeral director in their area without having to do their own research at the worst possible time.
How we choose
We review the UK direct cremation market every year
Every year we review the major UK direct cremation providers against the same five published criteria: all-inclusive price, local independent funeral director network, NAFD or SAIF accreditation, transparency of pricing, and care of the deceased. The methodology is set out in full on our editorial standards page.
For 2026 we selected Best Direct Cremation as our recommended UK provider. Three reasons stood out:
- A genuine local independent funeral director network. Best Direct Cremation works through a vetted network of NAFD or SAIF accredited independent funeral directors with their own funeral home and mortuary close to where families live. Your loved one stays close to home and never travels hundreds of miles to a centralised regional hub.
- An all-inclusive £1,499 price, with no hidden extras. That covers collection, full professional care, a suitable coffin, all paperwork including the doctor's fees and Form Cremation 4, cremation at a local crematorium, and the return of ashes. The only optional cost is the £250 Priority Care fee for collection from a private home, hospice or care home — a clear ceiling of £1,749 under any circumstances. No surprise weekend fees, no fuel levies, no out-of-area charges.
- A 24-hour line answered by a real person. Deaths do not wait for office hours. Best Direct Cremation answers the phone day and night, 365 days a year, with a named member of their team — never a chatbot or call-handling service.
If at any point a different provider scores better than Best Direct Cremation against the published criteria, the recommendation will change. The site is updated as the market moves.
Our independence
Independent of every provider we list
County Cremation is not affiliated with any cremation provider listed on the site. We do not own, operate or share staff with any provider in this directory. The recommendation for 2026 is the conclusion of independent research against the criteria on our editorial standards page — nothing more.
Our recommended provider, Best Direct Cremation, is a relatively new brand — but the business is owned and operated by seasoned professionals with over a decade of experience in the UK funeral sector. That combination of a fresh, transparent consumer proposition and deep operational experience behind the scenes is a significant part of why they came out on top against our criteria for 2026.
The 0333 242 1405 number across this site is Best Direct Cremation's direct 24-hour line. When you dial it you reach their team straight away. County Cremation does not run a call centre and does not handle inbound calls about arranging a cremation.
